About Us

Children As The Peacemakers is now Peace to the Planet!

Picture
Children As The Peacemakers was founded in 1982 on the premise that the key to creating a peaceful world lies in our children. In the years since its inception, the foundation has laid the groundwork for that premise to be realized. The fragility of the world’s political situation and its environmental problems have prompted us to work rapidly.

Children As the Peacemakers has spearheaded an array of programs on an international scale that have empowered children to think constructively about peace, to express their ideas and feelings on peace, and to unite with children of other cultures to discover and reinforce mutual goals and areas of understanding.

The programs have been both consciousness-raising and substantive, and have resulted in the participation of hundreds of thousands of children in over 80 countries and the formation of a cooperative network of 40 adult organizations worldwide. Many of these children and organizations represent current and historical politically opposing forces. We gave particular emphasis to pioneering innovative programs between the United States and the former Soviet Union, which were highly successful.

In 2018 Children As The Peacemakers reincorporated as Peace to the Planet, and as a nonprofit, nonpolitical, and nonsectarian organization, has inspired widespread examples of goodwill, trust, cooperation and progress throughout the world, and has opened vast channels of communication between children.

Our major programs to date include the Children’s International Peace Prize, International Children’s Peace Missions, Katya Lycheva’s 1986 Goodwill Tour of the United States and the resulting publication of the book Making Friends, the international Banner of Hope and our latest initiative #KidsNotGuns.

We have many volunteer opportunities for kids, families, teachers, community members and anyone who's passionate about cultivating peace around the planet, to get involved with our organization on many levels. Find out what our greatest needs are and how you can contribute!
